Grey seal

Halichoerus grypus

Harmaahylje lepäilemässä luodolla

Grey seals are found in all corners of the Baltic Sea, but hunting is restricted to the Åland archipelago and all the way up to the Bay of Bothnia and requires a special license that is issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The estimated number of grey seals in Finland is 26,000 and a few hundred cull licenses are issued yearly. The hunting season for grey seals is from April 16th to the 31st of December, but due to rough weather conditions out at sea, Finnhunting concentrates on offering seal hunting during summertime.
